Paul Kidney Experience - Matt and Troy

In creating artwork for the forthcoming Paul Kidney Experience album "Radio Transmissions", I took band members Troy and Matt out to a canola crop in Balliang in the middle of a cold spring night...

East Brunswick All Girls Choir recording

So, the East Brunswick All Girls Choir have a new single out... 'Essendon 1986'. It's rockin!
While the band were recording this, and the rest of their forthcoming album Sandhurst Town, I went along and took some snaps.

LCD and the Dream Machine

Lowest Common Denominator played a ripper set at the Birmingham Hotel the other week...
...and as you can see, they had their Dream Machine in full effect

Newstead and Loddon River

The Loddon River at Newstead has been running nicely for the first time in ages. So the other night I went down to take some photos.

Adam Harding - at Old Bar

Adam Harding
grew up in Geelong but has been living in LA in recent years. He's been back recently to play some shows in support of his new 7" (featuring Lou and Murph from Dinosaur Jr!). You should also definitely get his 10", called Nothing An Arrow Wouldn't Fix. It's a killer.

27.9.10

Midnight Woolf play a Brunswick party

When Midnight Woolf come to play a couple of sets at ya party... you know you're going to be in for a good time. Ole!

Adalita - live at the Empress

Adalita is putting the final touches to her debut solo album. She recently played this solo show (with some fine accompaniment by JP Shilo) to a captivated crowd at the Empress Hotel.

25.9.10

Internal Rot - live at bar open

Internal Rot played a killer set at Bar Open the other night. This Melbourne grindcore 3 piece has members from Roskopp, Super Happy Fun Slide and Agents of Abhorrence, etc. Having not seen Max sing since the early days of Agents of Abhorrence, it was great to see owning the mic. Top band!

24.9.10

Collapsed Toilet Vietnam - at Bar Open

Collapsed Toilet Vietnam haven't played much lately.. but they did a good job of it the other night!

Embers - live at the Tote

Embers are Melbourne's free jazz supergroup. Here's them playing an awesome and rare set last month.

Bill Henson

Poor Bill Henson. He's had a rough trot lately.
I've painted 2 paintings of him (one of them here...incomplete).
...and then I go and take his photo in low light with a long exposure time."Story of my life" says Bill.

11.8.10

Bodies

Bodies formed from the ashes of The Adults. The other night Bodies launched their album. Killer band! Joel (pictured) also plays in the Assassination Collective.

Dan Kelly's Dream Band - lunchtime gig

With props and bubbles, the Dan Kelly Dream Band played a Friday lunchtime set at 1000 Pound Bend the other week.

8.8.10

Lichens with Ian Wadley

While in Australia touring with Om, Lichens did a couple of extra shows. I caught a collaboration between Lichens and Ian Wadley at Sunshine and Grease. Twas a pretty ace little gig.

The Strokes

The Strokes played at Festival Hall the other night, and slammed out a set of their catchy as hell pop classics. Opening with New York City Cops, they were in top form.

The Like

Before seeing The Like I'd read that they are the daughters of a bunch of music industry veterans from LA, so I was pretty sceptical. But they were pretty good. Garage-soul style rock...

Gypsy and the Cat

I saw a bit of these guys supporting The Strokes the other week... They didn't do a lot for me, but I only got to hear their first 3 songs.

31.7.10

Breathing Shrine

Breathing Shrine is Bonnie Mercer and Robert Mayson who both used to play in the Grey Daturas. It's fair to say, they bring the noise.

New War

New War have recently sprung up in Melbourne, and impressing the locals. Post-new-dub-wave perhaps? Definitely worth checking out.
